Socrates Socratous, Director
Socrates has more than 20 years of experience in VAT consultancy. Before setting up SOC VAT Consultants, he spent 5 years as a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London. As part of the Middle Markets team, he advised medium to multi-national sized clients in a variety of sectors. His work included advising on issues such as land and property transactions, partial exemption and business/non-business methods, international VAT, finance and cash flow planning.
Soc headed the PwC national not-for-profit team, and specialised in advising charities, housing associations and other not-for-profit organisations. Prior to PwC, Socrates worked for Horwath Clark Whitehill for over 9 years, advising small to medium businesses and charities. In addition to his professional experience, Soc spent 5 years at HM Customs & Excise, both as an Excise officer and VAT inspector.
He is a member of the Charity Finance Group and Charity Tax Group and regularly presents seminars for charities and local ACCA meetings. He is in demand as a speaker and regularly lectures on VAT for the Charity Tax Group, and the Charity Finance Group and Charity Finance conferences. He also writes and delivers bespoke VAT training courses for clients
Linda Skilbeck CTA
Linda has over 30 years experience in VAT. She joined HM Customs and Excise (now HMRC) after University and then moved into private practice with BDO Stoy Hayward in London where she specialised in advising charities, not for profit organisations and property companies. Linda has worked in Grant Thornton and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, advising small medium and large multi-national clients in the charitable, financial and property sectors. She wrote technical publications for the PwC national VAT practice and clients.
Linda specialises in advising on charity issues, land and property transactions, partial exemption, international services, and finance issues, and is a member of the CIOT Indirect Tax Technical Committee and the VAT Practitioners Group.
